Do research: Dedicate time to researching what’s out there and the average price of your desired model. You can use our Car Valuation Tool to check out what a vehicle is actually worth. For reliability, try to look for cars under 60,000KM with a good service book.

Inspect the car: Take someone with you during the test drive. Listen out for odd sounds coming from the engine or underneath the car, and above all, trust your gut. Check under the bonnet for the oil and lubricant levels, check the tyres and all of the lights and all of the internal features.

Negotiate: Negotiate the price based on your research and the faults you found with the car that will require further spending. There is usually leeway for bargaining, so don't be afraid to speak up.
